Gold Story
Privacy Policy
Effective June 13, 2026 (v1.0)
Privacy first: Gold Story is built to work in the backcountry with no signal and no account. There are no servers of ours, no analytics, and no ads. Your journal, your finds, and your spots stay on your device.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Personal information
We collect no personal information. Gold Story requires no account, email, or identifier of any kind. You can use the app completely anonymously.
1.2 Your journal data
Everything you enter is stored locally on your device: finds (weight, method, date, notes), trips, waypoints, photos you attach, and your settings. This data never leaves your device except through the export feature, which produces a file you keep yourself.
1.3 Location
If you grant location permission, Gold Story attaches a location to the finds and waypoints you choose to log, so your records are accurate. Your location is used only on-device and is never transmitted to us or anyone else. You can use the app without granting location access.
1.4 Analytics
We collect no analytics or usage data. Gold Story contains no third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs.
2. Maps and gold-site data
The offline map and the documented gold sites (from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System) are bundled in the app. Optional regional map packs are downloaded on demand from a static file host. These downloads are a one-way content delivery — no personal data, journal data, or location is sent in the request beyond the standard network metadata required to fetch a file over HTTPS.
3. Purchases
Gold Story Pro is a one-time purchase processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. There is no third-party purchase SDK — your entitlement is tied to your Apple ID and read on-device. We never see your name, email, or payment details.
4. Children's privacy
Gold Story is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
5. Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices ever change, this page will be updated and the effective date revised before the change ships.
